- ItemAdvertising and Sales in Multinational Corporations: A Case Study of Mtn Company in Uganda(Kampala International University, bachelors degree in International business, 2010-06) Uwineza Sabah, AmurThe study was conducted under the topic of "Advertising and Sales in Multinational Corporations" and it had three objectives; to establish the relationship between the types of advertising and sales performance in Multinational Corporation, to establish the contribution of advertisement towards sales in Multinational Corporations, to establish the relationship between the challenges faced in advertising and sales by Multinational Corporation. The study adopted a quantitative, correlation, cross sectional survey research design based on secondary data and collected from internet based documents, and library based textbooks, journals and presentation documents. The researcher collected the necessary information using Self Administered Questionnaires methods of data collection. The data was tabulated and then analyzed in order to draw inference from the data collected. The information collected from the respondents through questionnaires was used in order to answer the objectives of the study. The study find out that advertising entices the buyer to come to the location where a sale takes place. It often attempts to persuade potential customers to purchase or to consume a particular brand of product or service. It was recommended that manufacturers and producers should always conduct market surveys to establish what pleases the target customers, their testes and preferences, before they choose the type of advertising to use. This will help them to meet their customer expectations, create customer loyalty and gain a competitive edge, thus achieving the company overall objective.
- ItemAssessment of electronic assisted management in Stanbic Bank Kampala Uganda: case study Stanbic Bank Kampala, Uganda(Kampala International University: College of Economics and management, 2006-07) Tekah, Isaiah B.The study was basically based on the assessment of electronic assisted management in Stanbic Bank Kampala Uganda compared to the traditional manual management system that was there before. The purpose of the study was to assess the use of electronic assisted management in the management of Stanbic Bank in the general course of its operations and how it affects the decision making. The objectives of the study were: ❖ To assess the areas of applications of electronic assistance management. ❖ To assess the justification of EAM. ❖ To assess the rationale of electronic assisted management. ❖ To identify limitations of EAM. The instruments used to collect data were questionnaires, interview and observation. Samples were selected both randomly and systematically. The data for the study was got from two sources that is primary and secondary source. Finally, the data was analyzed using MS excel, Tables, Pie charts, graphs and statistical methods. The findings of the study were that, electronic assisted management greatly affects the management and operations of the bank and it contributes a lot towards the successful decision making of the Bank. In order for the bank to serve its customers with ease and coordinate with other management level or functional departments in the course of management EAM plays a key role. The conclusion was that, electronic assisted management greatly contributes towards the success of management of Stanbic bank given the era of globalization and technological changes in order to improve on the services according to the specifications of the customers with differing tastes and preferences. Unlike the traditional manual management system that did not consider this factor.
- ItemAn assessment of the factors influencing the buying behaviour of milk consumers in dar-es salaam region:(Kampala International University, College of Economics and Management, 2006-09) Mutema, David MbuiThe study aims at assessing factors influencing consumer-buying behaviour of milk consumers in Tanzania a case study of Kinondoni district. It aims at investigating consumers' awareness on importance of milk for their health; and determining the impact of quality, distance from source of supply and socio-cultural factors on milk consumption. The data for the study were collected and through questionnaires and interview to a random selected sample of 83 individuals in fourteen wards of the study case area. The data was analysed using SPSS where descriptive statistics such as graphs, frequency and cross-tabs were used. Results showed that consumers are aware of the benefits of milk to their health and it is the most preferred drink to other drinks. Also quality and distance from the source of supply have been found to have a significant influence on consumption. Furthermore, age, marital status and ethnic origin are the socio-cultural factors that were observed to affect milk consumption. Thus, increasing milk consumption requires improving and/or maintaining milk quality, ensures reduce the distance between consumers and source of supply. Also education on variety of uses of milk, functions of nutrients found in milk, production process, and storage. Lastly, school milk feeding program should be taken seriously to build long-term future milk production.

Wok schedules should help employees to balance work, free time and personal life. Work schedules can cause tension and pressure on employees if not well implemented. Thus whether intentional or not the administration of work schedules as a control device often seems to be attended by pressure and threats rather than by satisfaction of employee desire, thus communication is very important. The study aims to investigate how work schedules can affect employee effectiveness and organizational productivity. Work scheduling has been there for many years in many organizations but has lacked good implementation policies due to lack of orientation of employees on the existing schedules during training process.

The objectives of this study are; to determine the requirement of loaning followed by Equity Bank Uganda Ltd in terms of success of entrepreneurial Project. To find out the process through the successful projects are evaluated by the Bank, to determine the factors that negatively affect the Bank credit Scheme and Success of entrepreneurial Projects that have bbrrowed from the Bank. The study population comprised of 400 people, a sample size of 101 respondents was chosen, using simple random sampling method. Questionnaires were used in collecting both primary and secondary data. The collected data was analyzed using both qualitative and quantitative methods. The findings shows the benefits of Bank Credit Scheme, participation of the peoples in Bank Credit Scheme and the factors negatively affect the success of bank Credit Scheme for project that have borrowed from the Bank. The study concluded that the Bank Credit Scheme and success of entrepreneurial Projects has impact positive in social economic development. It recommends that the Bank Credit Scheme policy should be well articulated to reflect the financial and human capacities, training and regular monitoring and evaluation.
- ItemBranding and business performance of fast moving consumer goods. a case study of mukwano group of companies Kampala, Uganda(Kampala International University, College of Economics and Management, 2014-12) Adam, AdamThe study was about branding and business performance of fast moving consumer goods. A case study of Mukwano Group of Companies Kampala, Uganda. The study was based on the following four objectives; to determine the profile of respondents in terms of age, gender, educational level, marital status, working experience and position; to establish branding strategies used by Mukwano Group of Companies; to establish the extent of business performance in Mukwano Group of Companies; and to establish the relationship between branding and business performance. A sample of 176 respondents both female and male employees of the company and their consumers of fast moving consumer goods were used for the study. The study employed a case study research design and the methodology used in this study was both qualitative and quantitative. Questionnaires and documentary review were the major tools of data collection. In regard to age, the study findings revealed that the majority of respondents were in age bracket of 31-40 years by 30.30%, in regard to gender, majority 85.80% were males, in regard to level of education, majority 46.00% were diploma holders, in regard to marital status, majority 47.20% were single and in regard to working experience, majority 30.70% had a working experience of 6-10 years. In regard to branding strategies, the majority of respondents revealed that Mukwano Group of Companies considers quality by 43.90%, 36. 10% for positioning, 39.80% for repositioning, and 47.10% for well-blended communications, 35.60% for being first, 51.20% for having a long-term perspective and focusing on internal marketing. In regard to business performance, majority 51.70% revealed that the company uses business performance measurement and control systems in determining the level of performance though majority 44. 90% revealed that it meets challenges when attempting to implement performance measurement system. It was finally revealed by majority 53.40% that there is a relationship between branding and business performance in Mukwano Group of Companies. The researcher recommended that; branding strategies of fast moving consumer goods should always be carefully considered; company's brands should have all three appeals that is brand strategy, brand positioning and brand personality and should also adopt a long-term view with regard to brand-building activities. Company should invest more resources in branding strategies, marketers should continue to emphasize the uniqueness of their products in terms of quality related attributes and also incorporate all aspects related to branding into their product mix to ensure that their products continue to remain popular and achieve long-term growth in sales.

- ItemCompensation scheme and enhancing employees' performance: case study Tanga Regions Commission Office and Districts Commission Office in Tanzania(Kampala International University; College of Economics and management, 2010-09) Conrad, G. LeyThis study examined an assessment of compensation scheme to employees and its impacts to their performance in Tanga Regions Commission Office and Tanga District Commission Office. The objective of this study was to ascertain the components of compensation scheme to employees, investigate the impact of poor compensation scheme to employees and to examine the efforts made by the government in improving the compensation scheme for employees. The research instruments used to collect data were questionnaires, interviews and documentation sources such as annual public sector executive compensation disclosure report 2008 from which relevant information was gathered. Data collected were analyzed using qualitative methods where simple statistics like percentage and tabulation were used. Report shows that many employees understood the concept of compensation scheme and few of the do not understand the concept at all, lastly report shows that there are efforts made by the government to improve the compensation scheme for employees such as pay salaries and arrears in time, access employees to bank loans and improve employees working environment, but those efforts are not to a great extent to satisfy employees.

Any organization can clearly identify itself with the industry in which it plays in, and identifying itself within an industry means that an organization is not the only one that offers products and services in a particular industry there are other players as well. Competitor analysis was designed by management gurus(Michael Porter and Phillip Kotler) as an important exercise that was purely meant to look at what other players in the industry are up to and to position an organization by developing competitive advantages. By analyzing competitors a company maps out their competitive advantages and disadvantages and look at what makes competitors tick. This project seeks to identify competitor analysis practice in organizations with particular interest at the Sarova Stanley Hotel in Nairobi. The hotel is among the leading five star hotels in Kenya and that tells one how competitive the environment of Nairobi town is since it's the hub of commercialization and important meetings which are held in big hotels such as the Sarova Stanley. The study was conducted from the period of June to August 2008, during this time the researcher was doing three months internship, and this gave him a better understanding of competitor analysis.

Many organizations have taken CSR as a competitive tool and they are using their social responsibility repo1is to market themselves and gain more market share. In contrast some organizations today still believe that the only corporate social responsibility and that is to maximize profits within the law. They argue that CSR costs money and is not good business. This study was undertaken to determine impacts of CSR on a company's profitability. The study covered the employees, managers and share holders of EQUITY BANK KENYA. A sample of respondents (employees' managers and share holders) was selected through random sampling method and used in this study. The employees and managers came from different departments such as finance and accounts, marketing, customer relations, human resource, and other departments in the bank and questionnaires were distributed. When returned these questionnaires were analyzed and later a report was compiled. After analysis the data was presented in tables and charts. It was found out that most respondents (employee's managers and share holders) believed that CSR improved a company's profits in the long run. The majority of the respondents suppo1ied corporate social programs conducted by the company and had actually taken part in corporate social responsibility programs. The major challenge that was facing the implementation of corporate social programs was cost factor and also lack of qualified personnel to perform some of the social programs that required specialized expertise. The study revealed that CSR improves profitability.

The study was guided by the following objectives: ~)To determine the level of Corporate social Responsibility in Total Kampala Limited; 2) to determine the level of Organizational performance in Total Kampala Limited and 3) to establish whether there is a significant relationship between Corporate social Responsibility and Organizational performance in Total Kampala Limited. This study used descriptive correlational design that was in conjunction with quantitative approach. This design was used because the topic of study required extensive analysis and also needed to highlight the relationships that existed between different phenomena. The study used a target population of 115 out of which a sample size of 89 respondents respectively was got using Slovene’s formula. Questionnaires were used for reaching respondents who were randomly selected to be part of the study and the data collected was organized and analyzed to generate information which came from the research. The study ni~dc the following findings from in terms of gender had males with 56.2%. The age of respondents, those between the age-brackets of 31-35 years were respondents with 44.6%, On the education level, it was manifested as follows: Degree were the majority with 45% Respondents’ marital status, those who were married with 45%, The average mean score of all the scores in the level of Organizational performance was 2.66 interpreted as satisfactory meaning that it was moderate. The study recommends that Total Kampala liniitcd sees Corporate Social Responsibility as an obligation to its host community, this supports that oil companies should carry out corporate social responsibility projects and not only should they practice Corporate Social Responsibility, they should carry it out adequately and appropriately in order to ensure sustainability, profitability and a high increase in productivity, thus, they will definitely experience the benefits that are inherent in the planning and implementation of Corporate Social Responsibility, Effective monitoring and evaluation by all stakeholders of Total Kampala Limited reduces the incidence of the company treating Corporate Social Responsibility with levity, community leaders! representatives! heads, opinion leaders and shareholders Total Uganda should consider in investing much in ethical activities then philanthropic as this will lead to improve in performance CSR environment has got insignificant impact on organization performance the researcher also recommends that further research should be done to concentrate on how corporate social responsibility can affect employee performance

The study also sought to establish whether or not basic prerequisites conducive for establishment of a vibrant financial services sector as alternative financer of SMEs do exists in Kenya. The objectives of the study were to; establish the causes of lack of credit finance to SMEs in Nairobi City, to find out other factors that affect the survival of SMEs in Nairobi City. The findings of the research were that the causes of lack of credit to small and medium business in Nairobi City which include inadequate education and skills, technological change, lack of managerial training and experience among others. Other factors that affect the survival of SMEs in Nairobi City which include taxation, poor market, management problems, poor record keeping, wrong pricing among others. The policy measures that can be implemented to ensure the survival of small and medium business in Nairobi City which include access to land and premises, access to credit, marketing assistance, coordination of activities and awareness creation among others. The research concluded that microfinance played a vital role towards development of small and medium businesses in Nairobi City. Based on the research findings the following were recommended, all stakeholders of local economic development including donors, government organisations, NGOs and private sector should strive together to have an overall strategy for improving the BDS market development interventions. Hence, all interventions in supporting MSEs should be designed based on the new BDS market development principles.

The study was based on the following objectives and these are, to establish the profile of the respondents in financial institutions, to establish the key elements of credit policy fir Cairo bank and to examine the relationship between credit policy and customer satisfaction. The study employed descriptive correlation design: dala was collected using researcher deviscd questionnaires and interview. In regard to gender. the findings revealed that the majority of the respondents 60% were male, in regard to department category, majority 40% were from the marketing department, in regard to education level, majority 40% were bachelor’s degree holders, and in regard to work experience, majority 45% had worked with in Cairo bank for 3-6 years. In regard to credit policy 65% were encountered to the service, in regard to customer satisfaction, the study established that the maj;rity8s% customers are satisfied with the service provided and was interpreted satisfactorily, 64% showed increase in sales, 70% increase in profits. The results also suggested that there is relationship between credit policy and customer satisfaction of 79.8%. The study concluded that the main goal of the research was establish the impact of credit policy and customer satisfaction financial institution in Cairo bank branch of Kampala district .it is recommended to Cairo bank to clarify company’s goals before implementing credit policy program through considering company’s needs, carry out customer orientation, competitive concentration and technological turbulence.

After several name changes. it became Grindlays Bank. In 1991 , Standard Bank bought the Grindlays Bank network in Africarica. Stanbic Bank (Uganda) Limited is a commercial bank in Uganda. It is the largest commercial bank in the country. The bank is involved in all aspects of commercial banking, focusing on servicing large, medium and small business enterprises as well as individuals. The bank has about 17% of the bank branches in the country Kampala inclusive. The need to come up with the institution was out of the realisation that most people lacked access to financial services or simply could not afford them. In this study, I focused on the effects of credit policy on the performance of stanbic bank ~· ntcbbe branch. The researcher used interviews, observations and questionnaires to extract , nlormation from the randomly sampled respondents to help us understand how credit policy is used by stanbic bank and its impact on the performance of the bank. The researcher obtained the findings and analyzed the data by use oftables (hypothetical) and chats which helped to present data and arrive at conclusion and recommendations. This piece of work has been compiled and is presented a very simple language easy to understand, a lot of terminologies have been avoided. - ItemCustomer care and business performance in the service industry; A case study of the National Insurance Corporation (NIC) Limited Kampala District, Uganda(College of Economics and Management, 2017-09) Nakkazi, SaudahThis study assessed the impact of customer care on business performance in the service industry, using National Insurance Corporation (NIC) Limited, Kampala office as the case study. The study specifically sought to: examine the impact of components of customer care; ascertain the contribution of customer attitudes; and assess the contribution of staff skills on customer care and business performance in NIC Limited. The Study Literature revealed the impact of components of Customer Care on business performance and the contribution of staff attitudes and skills on customer care and business performance of NIC Limited. Data was collected using both qualitative and quantitative methods. The study used probability sampling and most specifically stratified sampling method. Data was got from both primary and secondary sources. Primary data was collected using questionnaires that were administered to a sample size of 90 staff of NIC Limited and 20 customers across Kampala. Interviews were also carried out by the researcher among a sample of top management officials, employees and customers of NIC Limited. Secondary data was gathered from; publications, internet, and unpublished documents. Data was analyzed and presented both in tables and graphical forms. The findings of the study revealed that, customer care had an impact on business performance in the service industry. It was also found out that components of customer care have an impact on the business performance of NIC Limited since good communication (88%), complaint handling (68%), physical facilitation (98%) and reward of customers (96%) profoundly contribute to the business performance of the service industry. The study also found out that other factors such as staff attitudes and personnel skills influence Customer Care and business performance in NIC Limited. However, complaint handling procedures were not well laid down for all to use easily and staff development by NIC in the areas of Insurance was wanting. It was recommended in the study that; NIC Limited should develop and clearly put in place procedures for complaint handling and ensure that they encourage professional development on matters of Insurance. Further work is also needed to better understand the processes through which customer care is inculcated and how the Businesses can successfully integrate these components into the Service Industry
