School management on academic performance of public secondary schools in Rangwe division Homa-bay county, Kenya

Abstract
Since the introduction of formal education, there has steady growth in enrolment in secondary schools in Kenya. This in tum has raised concerns about the quality of education especially with respect to equity, access, relevance and efficiency of secondary education. This study sought to investigate school management on academic performance, students' achievement in numeracy of k.c.s.e was used as indicator of quality. The study utilized survey design, purposive and stratified random sample of 20 secondary schools out of 40 secondary schools in Rang we Division Homa Bay County. Teachers, B.O.G members, P.T.A members were purposefully selected while pupils and parents were sampled at random. Data was collected using questionnaires, interviews and observation. The study outcome showed that the education system was moving in the right pace and direction towards the attainment of the education goals, some deficiencies in achievement test scores, learning facilities and human resources factors were observed. From these findings, recommendations on ways of improving quality of secondary education in Kenya were formulated
