- ItemPoverty, illiteracy and standard of Living in northern Uganda:(Kampala International University, College of Economics and Management, 2015-08) Ouma, FelixThe research was rigorous on Poverty, illiteracy and standard of living in Northern Uganda, a case study of Alero sub-county Nwoya District Local Government. The study objectives were; To find out the income level of people in Alero sub-county, to find out the education level of the people in the area of study (Alero sub county), to established the ease of accessibility of the basic necessities of life such as food, clothing, shelter, medical care, education, access to clean water among others in the area of study and to find out the relationship between poverty, illiteracy and standard of living in Alero sub-county. Data was collected using self-administered questionnaires. The study used simple random sampling technique to draw representative samples and 100 respondents. The null hypothesis of the study was, there is significant difference between demographic characteristics and standard of living and the alternative was, there is a significant difference between demographic characteristics and standard of living. Graphs and pie charts were used to present the demographic characteristics and the level of standard of living. It was found out that the standard of living in terms of income, access to food, access to health care, access to education and access to housing was low. The data was analyzed using SPSS and STATA. There was a significant difference between demographic characteristics such as; gender, age, marital status, level of education, disposable income and standard of living and literacy level (F>O.05).
