- ItemAn assessment of the challenges facing girl-child education among the nomads in Wajir district -Central division-Kenya(Kampala International University, College of Education, Open and Distance Learning, 2008-05) Abdikadir Abdullahi, IbrahimThis study was conducted in order assess the challenges facing girl-child education among the nomads in Wajir District -Central Division-Kenya particularly in Wajir girls' primary school, Furaha girls' primary school and Griftu girls' primary school The study involved a total number of 50 respondents thus; 30 teachers, 20 pupils, selected in a gender conscious manner, that is; male and female. The instruments employed in this study were mainly questionnaires, and observations accompanied by interview guides. Data was analyzed by use a computer package called MS-Excel where by the responses were coded and edited, then presented in tables, pie-charts and graphs. The figures and percentages were in response to the following three main concerns of this research; the challenges faced in order to suggest possible recommendations promotion of girl child. The findings of this study were discussed in a descriptive manner (qualitative analysis). This involved discussing the data in relation to the research questions, to make meaning out of the data collected. The following were the major findings of the study; There are various factors that serve as barriers to the girl-child's education included; the biggest percentage of the teachers attributed to culture, since different pupils had different cultural set-ups as it represented by 36% while 32% of the interviewees attributed to the high levels of illiteracy among the parents since they are pastoralists and they see education as a wastage of time and money, 30% said poverty is another barrier and the least percentage of the respondents showed other factors, like; pupils seeing female teachers and other women who are in bigger posts in the province. Finally, a summary of key findings, conclusions and number of recommendations were suggested as presented in chapter five.

It was under the topic: Drug abuse and students’ performance. This paper has five chapters. Chapter one is introduction. It gives an insight into a background of the topic thus culture and dropout. It also looks into the theory, objectives, statement of the problem, purpose, research questions, and significance of the study. Chapter two is literature review. It gives a thorough analysis of different ideas of authors who wrote drug abuse in relation to students’ performance. Specifically literature talks about the meaning of in service training, the need and effectiveness, plus the impact of drug abuse on learners’ performance. Chapter three is research methodology. It tackles the design, environment, respondents, instruments, data collection procedures and statistical treatment of data. Chapter four is data presentation and analysis. It deals with the analysis and interpretation of data collected from the field and specifies respondents’ views about the subject in question. Chapter five deals with, discussions, and recommendations, It is the last chapter of this research paper.
